This week, I am upcycling an old diffuser and creating a vase with a volcanic rock texture.
I have this cute diffuser that I purchased years ago. As you might recognize the pattern, this item was one of those I barely used, so I decided to upcycle it into something more meaningful and pretty. The diffuser is fully made of plastic, and I would not buy anything like that in my current life, as I am pro-sustainability. Nonetheless, tossing the diffuser would mean polluting, so I simply decided to upcycle it.
I came up with the idea to create a unique texture and make it look like a black volcanic rock.
First, I applied the first coat of black acrylic paint and dried it using a simple hairdryer.
Then, I mixed the black acrylic paint with the sand. The tiny stones and branches made the paint thick and created this amazing texture I was going for.
Using a sponge, I applied the second coat of paint, made it dry and that was the end of the project.
I styled the black “volcanic rock” vase with branches and pink leaves of a blossoming cherry tree. The combination of black and pink is simply stunning.
