I absolutely love it! I love, love, loooooove the most sustainable and eco-friendly furniture you can ever get – strong and lightweight cardboard furniture. In this post, I was introducing you to the German cardboard furniture company. Now, let’s talk about its American competition, a company Chairigami.
Story
The person behind this great idea is Zach Rotholz, a young entrepreneur, and a designer who graduated from Yale University. Zach has a long “relationship” with cardboard, from the time he was a child playing with large refrigerator boxes to the time when he was working with a non-profit that designs custom equipment for disabled children.
Inspired by how strong the cardboard could be, he created a flat-packing and modular furniture system for my college friends who were constantly on the move. And that’s when he opened the first Chairigami store, part furniture lab and part cardboard atelier.
Strong and lightweight cardboard furniture
In the furniture, Chairigami is using a “secret sauce” – a three-ply corrugated board designed to make it strong and lightweight.
Why do I like Chairigami concept? First of all, it is 100% recyclable. Besides, it is SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) Certified.
As Ommik home office brand, I am particularly interested in the standing desk and chair made by Chairigami.
The standing desk comes in 2 colors and measurements are 112 cm width, 66 cm depth and height from 96 cm to 112 cm. The price of this item is 235 USD, which is approximately 227 EUR. I would absolutely love to have one to try on my own (wink-wink, Zach!). I was talking about standing desks and how healthy it is to work standing from time to time. So, keep an eye on this item! It is truly a perfect solution for a home office setting!
The desk chair also comes in 2 colors and measurements are 46 x 66 x 89 cm. The price is 145 USD (= 140 EUR). If you style it up with nice fabric or throw pillow, it will be super comfortable.
