Video of the week: Balcony makeover
2 April, 2022In small apartments, we tend to use every inch of the space at its best. The balconies are not the exception. Of course, this relates to those lucky ones who have balconies. In this post, we talk about how to spruce up your balcony and make it cozy for any season. I want to stress the words “for any season” because not all of us live in sunny California, and if you are a European citizen, you have touch weather from time to time.
How to spruce up your balcony and make it cozy for any season
Flooring
Let’s start our balcony improvement with the flooring. Here I have a few options for you. Option 1: use floor decking made of wood. Option 2: use artificial grass, which brings the most amazing feeling when you step on it barefoot.

Rug
When the flooring is done, for some extra coziness, use rugs. Pay attention to the rugs that are specifically made for outdoor use, so the weather elements will not destroy them.
Table with chairs
We do want to use the balconies to hang out, alone or with company. So, a garden table and a couple of chairs would be a minimum setting to spruce up your balcony. You can add some artificial fur or blankets to the chairs to make them more comfortable.
Alternatively, you can DIY your seating area, and use fruit boxes with pillows as comfortable chairs and a table.
Small coffee table and couch
If your budget is a bit on the upper end, you can find a small couch and a coffee table. The comfort level is higher, and it looks simply stunning in the outdoor space. Make sure you choose artificial leather instead of the textile couch. We want to make sure you can still use it after the rain.

Lighting
This is up to your taste. You can use a floor lamp, desk lamp or lanterns. Besides, don’t forget to set Christmas lights, the coziness at its best guaranteed.
Greenery
A balcony is a place that gets most of the sunlight. We want to add as many plants as possible. Big ones, small ones, on the wall (=vertical garden), on the border of the balcony, on the table etc. Choose the plants that blossom to add colors.

Throw pillows and blankets
Now, when it comes to decoration, we can start with throw-pillows and blankets. Unfortunately, we can use them only when there is no rain or snow.
Candles (inside the lanterns)
For romantic people, you can purchase lanterns and put candles inside them. Lanterns will add extra safety to the balcony so that the textile won’t catch fire.

Decor
Finally, add some home decor pieces, a little wooden box with books, candle holders, decor pieces, picture frames, vases, interesting figurines. Select the decor items that look old, rustic, wooden with old paint.
