Video of the week: the best keyboard setup right now?
23 February, 2023I found it! After more than 10 keyboards, tested and getting frustrated, I decided to invest more money and got myself the most amazing keyboard – MX Mechanical performance keyboard from Logitech.
Mechanical keyboards
Mechanical keyboards are trending now. This is a fact. I asked myself, why is that? Mechanical keyboards are popular due to their durability and tactile feedback. Other words saying, when you work with mechanical keyboards, you feel like you actually produce something. The keys on a mechanical keyboard are attached to a metal spring. That gives them a more responsive feel and longer life span in comparison to traditional keyboards.

When we talk about durability, this is the most sustainable thing you can think of. Mechanical keyboards can be used for a really long time. You can check mechanical keyboards from the 80s and they are still working like a charm. So, you actually save money by investing more, as you won’t be buying any new keyboards any time soon. Besides, you can always replace keys, no need to replace the entire keyboard. How sustainable is that? You also can customize each key to do whatever you want it to do. So, if you don’t like your current layout, change it without changing the keyboard. How awesome is that?
Let’s not avoid the fact that the touch and click of mechanical keyboards builds up the most satisfying typing experience. For real, it feels like you produce something. Now, I learned something new today. There are 3 types of mechanical keyboards depending on the click: clicky, tactile quiet and linear. The difference is the click sound, and believe me, any of them make a fantastic click sound. To my personal taste, clicky mechanical keyboards are a bit louder than I would like.
My old keyboards
Now, let’s talk about my old keyboards. I was cheap. Really cheap. Considering the time, effort and money I invested into my home office setup. That makes me not only cheap, but also dumb, and I admit it. My most expensive keyboard was, I think, around 20 €. And then I would complain how uncomfortable the keyboard is. How much I dislike the layout, or how much I struggle with typing or coding.

I wasted in total more than 100 € on keyboards within the last 3-4 years, trying and testing and failing over and over again. At some point, I just got the cheapest white keyboard by Cherry and used it in the last half a year, but it was a daily struggle. I finally thought, I am not so rich to waste so much of my money on this and I would better invest more for one and only perfect performance keyboard. And I found one.
MX mechanical performance keyboard from Logitech
This is a game-changer. I am sure I will never buy other keyboards ever again. I found my perfect keyboard and I am so happy. 26.10 mm height, 433.85 mm width, 131.55 mm depth. This keyboard weighs 828 grams, and you can feel the heaviness of it, which makes it so stable on my desk. With an easy switch, you can connect it to 3 devices. I configured the connections to 2 laptops (one personal and one working) and my Samsung Tab S8+ tablet.

MX mechanical is sustainable. It is made of Graphite plastics (45% post-consumer recycled material). The keyboard has smart illumination. The backlit keys light up the moment your hands approach, and automatically adjust to suit your lighting conditions – resulting in optimal battery consumption. Speaking of battery consumption, the keyboard stays powered up to 15 days on a full charge – or up to 10 months with backlighting turned off.
