Home decor brands that use recycled materials
4 March, 2022The end of 2021 was an interesting year for IKEA Japan. Wait, not only IKEA Japan but IKEA world! What was the whole thing all about? Well, in a nutshell, IKEA to rent tiny homes in Japan for less than 1 EUR (99 Yen) was massive news! Let’s have a closer look at what the homes look like and what the story is all about.
IKEA to rent tiny homes in Japan
Last year I was writing another headline about IKEA when the company published disassembly instructions to extend the life cycle of the furniture, which Ommik supports as it is a part of sustainable living. Now, the company surprised us one more time! It is true that the tiny home movement is trending right now, and we talked about prefabricated tiny houses KODA in the past.

At the end of 2021, IKEA was accepting tenants at a monthly rent of 99 yen for a small apartment in Shinjuku district, Tokyo, fully coordinated with IKEA furniture and ideas. The room has already been designed, laid out and filled with IKEA home furnishing solutions into a comfortable space for everyone. Real estate agent BLÅHAJ collaborated with the IKEA Interior Design Team to transform an actual apartment in Shinjuku into a happy home. The rent is only 99 Yen per month for IKEA Family members.
As part of the campaign, IKEA has released a series of videos featuring its iconic shark mascot BLÅHAJ.

The apartment is only 10-square-meters (107-square-foot), but due to multifunctional furniture and home decor items, the home has everything one needs for a comfortable living. One of the keys is to make good use of the vertical space. By capturing the room three-dimensionally, new possibilities open up in a limited space.

The apartment is available to rent for IKEA family members only and will be available until January 15, 2023.
