Doing some badass networking in Berlin, or how to kick your own ass
14 October, 2022I am the most unsatisfied home office worker in the world. When I end up in a discussion about home office furniture, I am getting so disappointed about the lack of original, comfortable, and suitable ideas. Every single piece of furniture for home offices is absolutely catastrophic and impossible to use if you are like me, looking not just to sit there and work, but also to create an aesthetically pleasant place, where you spend 8 hours a day.
What are the problems with the home office furniture? Let’s have a look and discuss.
Home office furniture catastrophes and how to fix them
The desk
The desk is the main piece of furniture in the home office. But just like other home office furniture, the options you can find in the market are only suitable for real offices, not for home. In case you don’t mind killing the vibe of your house by installing an ordinary office desk, you need to find a better solution.

What is the problem with the ordinary office desk? – you might ask. Well, first of all, normally the width of the desk is too big for a home office. In Europe, unlike the US, for example, we normally live in smaller apartments and every square meter counts. So, we need to utilize the space wisely. Bulky and wide desks use too much space. I found a solution online, to get a console-like desk, which is narrow, but I am not happy with the material, so I am thinking of “fixing” it by getting a nice piece of wood that I can use to replace the surface.
The chair

Oh, my gawdddd! I can’t stress enough on saying how ugly it looks to have an office chair at the home office. Those five wheels are killing the vibe. I don’t care how comfortable the chair might be, it could be the most amazing chair of all the amazing chairs in the world, but if it has wheels, it should not be in the apartment.
For my home, I have chosen a beautiful and super comfortable armchair that blends in super nicely with the aesthetic of my living room. And guess what? It has no wheels!
The organizer

I don’t have an organizer, but I am truly looking for one. My organized chaos on the desk surface, an extra monitor and a laptop, notes, pens, desk lamp, keyboard, and a mouse… It all creates the mess that makes me go ugh every time I start working. I really must do something about it, and I promise I will keep you posted, when I declutter.
The lamp

Do not… DO NOT use the desk lamp that is supposed to be at the office. You know those, crane-alike metal thingies with the screw handle in the middle? That is another ugly piece you don’t want to see as a part of your home office furniture. I mean, seriously, lighting is one of the most creative items you can find in the market nowadays. So please, use your resources and find something pleasant for your desk.
The cable spaghetti

In this post, I was sharing my own experience (with photos) of how I got rid of cable spaghetti on my home office corner. I took a bit of a creative approach, with the minimal budget. But there are several solutions for cable management, and you can use a thing or two. You can hide them in a nice and aesthetically pleasant box that you can store under the desk on the floor or attach the cables in cable holders attached to the desk surface from below. Whatever works good for you.
Speaking of spaghetti, I am getting hungry now, so I am off to fix myself dinner. Hope you got inspired by this discussion. Tell me what you think. See you next time!
