Today I am going to use concrete in my project for the very first time. I was inspired by the door stopper made of concrete and leather by Wild and Wood that costs 35 € in their store and wanted to make my own version.
My idea of a door stopper is to give it a nice shape. Being a big coffee drinker, I am going to give a door stopper the shape of a coffee cup, or better say half a coffee cup.
I am going to use an old Amazon cardboard box to divide the cup in half vertically. To find the measures of the cardboard wall that I will place inside the cup, I am drawing the radius of the bigger side of the cup, then the height and finally the smaller radius. The lines in the middle of the circles will be connected and that is the exact template of a cardboard wall I need.
I am using tape to secure the cardboard wall, which will protect the cardboard from absorbing liquid from the concrete.
Now, I want my door stopper to have a leather handle. I am using a leather doorknob that I bought for my other DIY project and make a loop.
The rubber lid will be holding the leather in the right place, but I need to cut a hole in the lid for this. When the concrete is ready, I will close the lid and the leather will be dunk inside the concrete.
Now, I will be mixing concrete powder with water. Concrete always comes with precise instructions on how to mix it using the correct proportions. Just follow the instructions. After the concrete is done, I will pour it inside my mold. Finally, I am going to close the cup with the lid that holds the leather handle. I added a metal screw that should sink inside the concrete and when it is dry, the leather handle will be secured.
Let it dry overnight. The next morning my concrete door stopper is ready. Let me take it out of the mold.
It is beautiful. Looks exactly how I imagined it. I love imperfections, little holes and bumps.
I am going to use a sander to brush it up a little.
Next, I want the longest side to have a rubber that would make it more practical when I will be using the door stopper. It will be standing still on the floor.
I decided to use a two-sided tape and it worked like a charm.
That finished the project, and it looks fantastic.
