Video of the week: Decorating with reds and purples
9 July, 2022In one of my past posts, we discussed the colour black. Now, I would like to talk about the colour red in the interior and see how your design can benefit with such intensity.
The colour red is not a standard colour you would want to have at home. First, it is an overly aggressive colour. If you stay long enough in a room with red walls, you will want to leave the room shortly after. This is not a calming colour. It projects intensity, passion, and aggression, but only if there is too much red.
In smaller amounts, making the red as a little splash here and there can make your room much more comfortable and cozier. So, let’s see what kind of splashes of red we could have in our extraordinary homes.
Colour red in the interior
Tomlin corner sofa

This couch is manufactured by Hykkon and you can get it in Wayfair for slightly above 1000 €. It comes with two pillows and three cushions. The colour is deep red, which looks stunning. Measures are 88 x 285 x 155 (in centimeters). Yes, nearly 3 meters long. It will look a-ma-zing! You can style it up with nice throw pillows, but let’s talk about them a bit later. Fun fact, I own this sofa personally, and I absolutely love it. So soft and calming, I fell asleep multiple times on it.
Ösenschal Moritz curtains

Produced by Gerster and made of polyester, the dark red curtains Ösenschal Moritz are going to add a lot of coziness to your room.
The thickness of the curtains will serve you well when you will need to block the sunlight, especially if you live in the northern countries, where summers are bright af.
Anni chairs

Red Anni chairs, produced by Woodford, are necessary for your dining table. Get at least four of them and make sure all your guests or family members are seated and feel as comfortable as possible.
IKEA throw pillows

IKEA offers a rich set of options when it comes to buying throw pillows. It is all up to your own taste, what shape you prefer, but here are two nice ideas for your inspiration. Buy as many throw pillows as you can, but don’t overwhelm your space with red. Combine them with other colours and shapes.
The first option is the VÅRELD throw pillow. It is a square pillow, 50 x 50 cm, and what I like about it is the waffle pattern of its fabric. Absolutely delightful to touch. The second option is the KRANSBORRE throw pillow. A round pillow with a button in the middle. It fits perfectly on the Tomlin corner sofa.
Strøm vase

The beautiful, simple geometric Strøm vase by Raawii is an incredible home decor piece. 25×33 cm comes with the price of 170 € and, hear me out, the vase, as the complete collection, is handmade in Portugal.
You will enjoy the shapes, the forms, and the touches of the vase.
What do you think about the red colour in the interior? Would you go for something so aggressive? Let me know in the comment section below.
Last year I was working on my personal project – a makeover of my living room. In fact, I have chosen red colour as my statement colour, and the splashes of red here and there were my goal. I ended up having the most beautiful room I have ever designed. You can have a look at the makeover process here.
