Living room makeover. Building a dining area and storage space
26 October, 2021From the psychological point of view, colours affect our well-being and mood. In this post, I would like to talk about the importance of colour in interior design and how to choose the right one for your home.
Choosing the right colour in interior design
Red
The red colour is commonly associated with aggression, power, high energy level. Although, it is not advisable to stay in a red room for too long. In fact, people don’t like staying long in rooms painted red. A little hint for introverted people: you wants guests to leave earlier, paint the guestroom in red and the colour will do magic for you.
On the other hand, having some red home decor items or pieces of furniture makes the room pop and brings a lot of interest.
Yellow

Yellow is the warmest colour in interior design. It is associated with sunshine, happiness, summer. It is advisable to use a colour that normally would not have a natural source of light, like a bathroom or hallway.
Orange
The orange colour is uplifted yellow. It brings less comfort than yellow but still is a happy colour. Too much orange in the interior can exhaust it, so it is not advisable to paint all 4 walls in it. Having one wall in orange colour and some home decor items can bring the feeling of holidays, happiness and success.
Green

The colour of calmness, nature, relaxation. This is my favourite colour for the bedroom. This is the colour you want to have when you go to sleep because it gives you a calming effect and a sense of security. The calming power of green is the right choice for the bedroom. I would personally choose nature-themed green wallpaper for the bedroom.
Purple
The purple colour is the colour of creativity. It is advisable to have a small room or nook that you use as a workshop, home office, art studio or dressing room. A room painted in purple can give a sense of elegance and luxury, but too much purple can look hideous if not used right, so be careful with this colour.
Blue

Blue, especially when it comes with the contrast white colour, is the colour we all know from the Greek holidays. An amazing combination that brings the feeling of holidays, summer, sea, sky. Psychologically, it brings the most positive effect on people. But it is important to know that this only works well in light rooms full of sunlight. Dark rooms in blue can bring the feeling of depression and desperation.
There are for sure many other colours to choose from, and maybe we will talk about them in my future posts. But these are the basic ones.
